How to Sell on Social Media Platforms

How to Sell on Social Media Platforms

February 13, 20253 min read

Starting a business takes guts, and selling on social media can feel daunting for many product-based entrepreneurs. You might worry: What if no one buys? What if I fail? What if my product isn’t liked? The reality is, belief in yourself is one of the strongest tools you have when it comes to selling online.

Whether you’re new to social selling or trying to build momentum, social media remains one of the best places to grow an audience, showcase your products, and make sales. If you’re ready to move past fear and start selling with confidence, here are five practical steps to get you there.

1. Shift Your Mindset: Believe You’re Worth It

Success starts with self-belief. If you don’t believe in yourself, it will show—whether in your posts, your interactions, or your sales pitch.

No one will believe in your business more than you do. Your passion and purpose are what connect with your audience. Take a moment to remind yourself why you started your business—whether it’s for independence, passion, or to offer something valuable.

Action: Write down affirmations like, “I am capable of success” and “My product adds value.” Repeat these daily to build your confidence.

2. Start Small and Build Momentum

You don’t need thousands of followers to make sales. What matters is having a small, engaged audience that trusts you.

Forget perfection; focus on progress. Show up regularly by sharing authentic content—behind-the-scenes glimpses, your process, or even the challenges you face. Consistency beats perfection every time.

Action: Post one piece of content every day for a week. Keep it simple but genuine, and watch your confidence and connection grow.

3. Embrace Vulnerability: Share Your Story

People buy more than products—they buy stories and connections. Your personal journey is what makes your brand stand out.

For instance, running both Nat-Zen.com (my skincare brand) and Soul-Led Ecommerce (my consulting business), I’ve faced my own fears about being visible online. Once I started sharing my experiences, from juggling business and family life, I noticed people connecting with me on a deeper level—and sales followed.

Don’t shy away from sharing your real story, whether that’s overcoming obstacles or celebrating small wins.

Action: Share one post this week that reveals a part of your journey—why you started, a challenge, or a sneak peek behind the scenes.

4. Create Value Before You Sell

A common pitfall is rushing straight into sales messages without first earning your audience’s trust. Instead of constant promotions, focus on giving value.

Share helpful tips, advice, or insights related to your niche. For example, if you sell skincare, offer guidance on self-care routines or explain ingredients people should look out for. Providing valuable content positions you as an expert and builds trust over time.

Action step: Plan your content so that about 80% is value-driven and only 20% promotes your products.

5. Take Action Despite Fear

Feeling nervous about selling online is normal, but progress happens when you act despite the fear. Showing up regularly builds confidence, even if your first posts aren’t perfect.

Everyone starts somewhere. The key is consistency. Keep pushing forward, and the fear will ease as your audience and confidence grow.

Action step: Challenge yourself to keep taking small steps, even when you feel stuck. Remember, consistent action leads to meaningful results.
